Those Eyes (story excerpt)
“Look at me.” her words came out as both a gentle whisper and a command.
“I am.”
“No, look me in the eyes” I felt her fingers brush my cheek as she tucked a few strands of my hair behind my ear and they lingered just long enough to give me chills. This girl was dangerous, very dangerous.
The moment our eyes met I was locked into place. I finally saw what I had failed to see before.
Her eyes are amber. It's such a simple realization, and yet one that turned my world upside down.
The shades of brown and gold danced like flames as she peered into me, and every carefully created and meticulously placed wall that I had put up was consumed in her fire all at once. I was no longer protected, completely vulnerable before her. I could feel the dread building in me. What if she sees all my flaws? What if she hates the real me? What if this makes her walk away? The questions spun in my head one after the other and simultaneously all at the same time. Until suddenly, one finally settled. What if this works?
Time seemed to freeze as I sat there, and I noticed more and more things that I hadn't before. Her body was so close that I could feel the heat radiating off her skin; it made me want to move closer. Her smell was intoxicating. Musky and sweet; it made me light headed and my head spin. Her smile was inviting but warned of the mischief she was undoubtedly capable of. Even the slight way she tilted her head as she gazed into me caught me off guard.
How did I not notice before? I couldn't stop asking myself as we laid there. I wasn't the girl that someone looked at like this. I wasn't the girl that got noticed at all. Not until now.
Then it all ended as her voice reached my ears again and pulled me out of my thoughts.
"what are you thinking over there?"
